Bayreuth startup wins this year's Medical Valley Award worth €250,000

As part of the Medical Valley Award, inContAlert was recognized this year as one of the winning teams and receives €250,000 for its project.

The two founders Jannik Lockl and Tristan Zürl convinced the jury of the renowned Medical Valley Award with their idea of warning incontinence patients so that they can reach a toilet in time. While Tristan was already able to write his master's thesis in this field, Jannik can now link his doctorate to the further development. With this model, the project group is breaking new ground and hopes that there will be more research-oriented projects with a startup goal in the future.

After several wins in international competitions (including the International Business Plan Competition in Hong Kong), the team applied for multi-year funding at the Medical Valley Award for the first time. Together with Klinikum Bayreuth, the MedizinCampus Oberfranken, and numerous other partners, Jannik and Tristan hope to master inclusion in the medical aids catalog as part of the planned spin-off.

The Medical Valley Award is a pre-founding competition of the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Media, Energy and Technology. The award is aimed at academic research projects in the healthcare industry from Bavaria with great spin-off potential. Ten teams receive "pre-seed" funding of up to €250,000. The goal of the funding is to develop the research ideas to spin-off readiness within a maximum of two years. In addition, all teams receive active support from Medical Valley and experts from the network.

Medical Valley is an association of stakeholders from business, science, healthcare, and politics to promote innovative services and technologies. Through the award, Medical Valley seeks to create incentives to optimize structures in healthcare while strengthening Bavaria as a medical technology location.
